Can real strategy work on a phone? Mostly, yes
Strategy fans tend to be skeptical of mobile, and I get it. Complex games have historically meant tiny buttons and misread taps. But a few titles have figured it out.
Iron Meridian is proof it can work. Pinch-zoom is smooth, units snap cleanly to hexes, and the pause-and-plan mode turns waiting at a bus stop into a tense planning session. It never dumbs the systems down to fit the screen.
The trick seems to be respecting the player's finger. Chunky, well-spaced controls and a pause button do more for mobile strategy than any flashy feature.
It's still a genre with a steep curve, and these games ask for reading and patience. But if you've been waiting for a strategy title that treats you like an adult, they're finally here.
